French 75

Curious to know how the French 75 got its name? This elegant cocktail that combines gin, champagne, lemon juice, and sugar, is thought to have such a kick that it may just feel like being shelled with the powerful French 75 field gun. Made famous at Harry’s New York Bar in France, and referenced in the movie Casablanca, a French 75 is a classic and delicious way to start off your evening fun.

MAKES 1 SERVINGS

2 ounces London dry gin

¾ ounce fresh lemon juice

¾ ounce simple syrup

2 ounces Champagne

Long spiral lemon twist (for serving)


Preparation

Step 1: Combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds.

Step 2: Strain cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into a large flute. Top with Champagne; garnish with lemon twist.
